Just finished stripping four walls covered with 25 year old wall paper using Zinsser Ultimate Power Wallpaper Stripper. In the past I've used vinegar and water solutions as well as a steamer so I wanted to give the Zinsser product a shot to see if it was more effective than either of the tried and true methods. Right off the bat I discovered that my wallpaper was vinyl coated (which pretty much prevents anything liquid from penetrating or staining it). The Zinsser instructions said to score this kind of paper to allow the stripper to penetrate through to the bonding layer. This did work although it added a serious amount of extra work. However, early on in the process I discovered that the vinyl coating pulled off in large sheets without the scoring leaving a paper undercoating stuck to the wall board. Applying the Zinsser stripper and waiting 5 minutes really did the trick. Keep in mind if you apply the Zinsser to too big an area it will begin to dry out before you can scrape the old wallpaper off - a 3' x 3' area worked the best for me. A combination of scraping and damp sponging the area removed just about every trace of residue. Two walls of my 12' x 14' dining room took me most of the day. I used the spray bottle but you could easily use a roller or brush. The product is non-toxic, no odor, non-staining, no VOCs and is effective on all types of wallpaper. The Zinsser 32 OZ. ULTRA POWER WALLPAPER STRIPPER (6 PACK) takes a lot of the work and waiting out of the tedious task of stripping your old wallpaper. This wallpaper stripper works quicker than other strippers I have used cutting time to finish the job. The stripper is easy to use, comes in a spray bottle and has a very low, non-obnoxious odor. If your wallpaper is vinyl just tear off the top layer and spray. If the vinyl does not come off, score the wallpaper and then spray, wait 2 minutes and peel off with a scraper. About us
